Malcom X Videos

Toward the end of the book, I became interested in hearing Malcolm X speak in a public forum. I wondered if he was truly as articulate and focused on Elijah Muhammad in rapid-fire interview situations as he was in the book, so I looked up footage on YouTube. The first video I came across was one in which he vehemently insisted that his last name was X--whether legal or not--and refused to tell his father's given surname.

He was also asked about the comment he made regarding the plane crash at Orly Field, and he says, "I pointed out... that God would step in and take a hand in giving us some sort of justice for the brutal killing of our brother.... That was an act of God showing his wrath." I found this interesting because Haley says he never publicly recanted the statement, and so far I cannot find an instance where did. While I don't always agree with what he has to say, I am moved by the calm, strict ways of his diction and by his utter devotion and discipline which are clearly evident in both the book and in his public statements.
